What is it?

Think of Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) as high-altitude training for your muscles! A BFR-certified physical therapist will perform a thorough evaluation of blood flow occlusion pressure at each limb and make calculations to find the safest and most effective pressure to use during training. The PT will lead you through a personalized exercise program based on your goals.

What does it do?

BFR occlusion pressures create a deficit of oxygen and a build-up of metabolites with low-intensity exercises, which forces the body to rapidly adapt as if you were doing high-intensity training! The positive effects include: stronger muscles, quicker recovery times, springier tendons, healthier vasculature, improved bone density, production of growth hormones for muscle hypertrophy, increased aerobic capacity, and much more!

How Effective is it?

The research is robust and positive in support of BFR as a safe and effective training tool whether you are recovering from an injury or trying to boost your strength and endurance. For example, current studies show that training with BFR is superior to traditional cardio training in increasing aerobic capacity in a third of the time without the strength blunting effect. Research has also shown that traditional strength training requires over twice as much load to get close to the same strength results in muscle hypertrophy, strength, and tendon adaptations.

How Safe is it?

BFR training is very safe when used appropriately. Our highly trained team will take you through an evaluation process prior to your appointment to make sure BFR is right for you!
